I think it would be cool to add a paper mill building that uses logs to produce paper. Profession could be a "Miller". Then additional buildings that could make books with paper and charcoal, with a "Binder" Profession. Books could be sold for a mark up premium or used in the Medievel library or other buildings to increase education. Just a thought.

the only thing though, we cannot "use" something and "add" to the education of a citizens, nor we can make him pass through all the school process with an item /emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" title=":(" width="20" />
all the education thing is hard coded in game
I'd use the "books" as a build requirement for a school. School = lumber + stone + books. Think of it as a stockpile to create the library and textbooks on-hand. The school's output is the educated person. Books are being written by thinkers at a coffee/tea shop like Diderot's famous Encyclopedia. Books could also be created by the monastery. Next, books/manuscripts could be a build requirement to create a theatre. The theatre would be basically the church building model but made to look like Shakespeare's round or maybe some Baroque opera house. Theatre would create happiness.
