Best field and dense orchard sizes
#1

Hey guys /emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" />

is there some up to date information, what would be the optimized size for a crop field and dense orchard? About two years ago I found some information about that but I guess this is outddated.

Cropfields with one worker - ~120 squares (e.g. 8x15 or 11x11)... depending on your weather conditions.

For dense orchards just choose odd numbers on all sides - like e.g. 5x15 or 7x15 etc...

The size calculator at BanishedInfo.com is a good resource for best size when you use vanilla Banished (go here). However, you should adjust the sizes depending on the climate you use.  When I'm using a Very Mild climate, I make my crop fields 8 x 18 (or 12 x 12), a bit larger than the 11 x 11 recommended.  I make my dense orchards 9 x 19 but I've made them bigger and those are fine too.  If you use a harsh climate, you probably need to use smaller fields.

I use 7x15 or 15x7 for both fields and dense orchards, depending on which direction i want them to go. I tend to group them in blocks of 6 or 8, and make the roads one tile removed from their edges (as suggested by someone here, sorry i no longer remember who.) it really does keep roads speedy if no items are ever put on them.

and as soon as population is high enough, i assign 3 workers each. this would be more than needed if both storage and housing were immediately nearby, but i prefer to keep storage near ports, and use markets for neighborhoods. i use 3 workers per field mostly for harvest, to ensure everything gets picked up before winter starts killing their yield.

this is my ag area in year 20. climate is mild and terrain is flat. nuevo arbol start. i have 37 fields/orchards, one greenhouse (gotta have avocados) and one 30x30 pasture. they employ 119 of my 360 population, and by the end of harvest I usually have 120,000 to 140,000 food units stocked. More than enough! /emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" />

Thank you for your answers /emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /> I'm playing the up to date <abbr title="Colonial Charter">CC</abbr> version so the great calculator doesn't fit for me ... but with the information I got from you I'm sure I will be able to improve some things /emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" />

Nice sizes. <span>It's not so difficult to convert it to the Orchards. 15-16 trees per worker. So a field of either 9x5 (15 trees) or 7x7 (16 trees) is ideal. I prefer the second variant like <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="<___base_url___>/index.php?/profile/8733-buildhappy/&do=hovercard" data-mentionid="8733" href="<___base_url___>/index.php?/profile/8733-buildhappy/">@BuildHappy</a>. </span>/emoticons/happy@2x.png 2x" title="^_^" width="20" />
