and as soon as population is high enough, i assign 3 workers each. this would be more than needed if both storage and housing were immediately nearby, but i prefer to keep storage near ports, and use markets for neighborhoods. i use 3 workers per field mostly for harvest, to ensure everything gets picked up before winter starts killing their yield.
this is my ag area in year 20. climate is mild and terrain is flat. nuevo arbol start. i have 37 fields/orchards, one greenhouse (gotta have avocados) and one 30x30 pasture. they employ 119 of my 360 population, and by the end of harvest I usually have 120,000 to 140,000 food units stocked. So a field of either 9x5 (15 trees) or 7x7 (16 trees) is ideal.
